Practical guide

From scan to invoice – the end-to-end digital civil-engineering workflow

Capturing data on the construction site has long been fast – what gets expensive is what happens afterward: retyping, copying back and forth between five programs, rebuilding quantity take-offs in Excel. Every one of these media breaks costs time, creates errors and triggers follow-up questions.

This practical guide shows you how a smartphone capture becomes billing-ready documentation without the data mess – in four stages from capture to billing. With a self-test “Is my documentation process end-to-end?”, an honest look at the savings potential, plus everything you need to know about hardware freedom and data protection.

The perfect basis for reviewing your own process – or passing the info on within your company.

The interview was recorded as a video interview in September 2024. You can watch it on YouTube. The video’s audio track is also available as a podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Handout

from the webinar “Site meets office: the future of construction”, October 2023

How can office and construction site be connected so that construction companies can hold their own in a constantly changing world and lead their business successfully into the future? What do concrete measures for gaining a competitive edge look like?

In the webinar hosted by the Verband Baugewerblicher Unternehmer Hessen e.V.  our Managing Director Max gave an overview and provided a handout to go with it.

Customer interview

with Torsten Mantei

Site manager at Rohrleitungs- und Tiefbau GmbH (RTN)

The demands on construction documentation keep growing. On top of that come challenges like a shortage of skilled workers and a generally high volume of jobs. How can a construction company best deal with all this?

We spoke with Torsten Mantei to learn more about his hands-on work with Vaira on the construction site. He’s a site manager at the construction service provider Rohrleitungs- und Tiefbau GmbH Neubrandenburg (RTN) and has been working with Vaira in the trench for quite some time.

How has using Vaira changed his work?

Author Ludwig Maria Rode wrote his thesis under the title “A usability study on integrating an augmented-reality surveying component into existing processes of utility documentation”.

This excerpt (chapter 5) contains a comprehensive analysis of the structure, the user guidance and the methodology used to analyze the accuracy of AR surveying with the Vaira app.

Academic thesis on Vaira (summary)

by Ludwig Maria Rode in cooperation with IMP GmbH as part of his degree program “Surveying and Geoinformation (VGI19)” at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences

Author Ludwig Maria Rode wrote his thesis under the title “A usability study on integrating an augmented-reality surveying component into existing processes of utility documentation”.

In his thesis, he examined the processes commonly used today and analyzed the structure and functions of Vaira. A central element is his accuracy analysis of the Vaira app and the methodology behind it. The work is rounded out by a cost-effectiveness assessment.

Because the thesis contains sensitive internal details of the participating companies, the author created the additional 12-page summary offered here, condensed from the original thesis of more than 70 pages, which we’re happy to offer for download.
